“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
As a financial planner, I’ve often noticed that it can be difficult for people to identify their values and dreams for the future. But without values and dreams, a plan is impersonal and destined to fail. It’s critical that we identify where we’re trying to go, before we chart a course to help get us there. It all starts with daring to dream ‘Values Based Dreams’. Once, we’re certain that our Heavenly Father has good plans for us, plans for “welfare and not for evil”, then we can fully trust Him with our future. Please use this worksheet to help you as you prayerfully consider the “future and hope” ahead for you, as you follow your loving Lord in obedience and faith.
Write about your dream here. Don’t be afraid to make it big and bold! If it can be achieved without God, it likely isn’t big enough! Be specific and include a target date. And remember, always ask God if this dream is within His will for you. If you sincerely ask with a heart that wants to do His will, He will show you. Have the courage to trust that His ways are always best! “As for God, His way is perfect…” – Ps. 18:30“…in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6
Give your Dream a name. What specifically are you going to do? Why is this important to you?
How will you measure success? How will you know when you have achieved your goal?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) Is my dream contrary to what I know to be God’s will me? Do I trust that His plans are best for me?
Is this dream worthwhile? How will achieving it fit with my values?
When do I plan to accomplish my dream? (If by God’s help, you achieve your dream earlier that’s even better!)
